Software teams need to automate their processes to stay competitive. We can all agree on that. What we can’t seem to agree on is: how.

That’s why SavvyCoders and Sketch Development are hosting a DevOps Midwest conference in St. Louis, MO on April 15th and 16th, 2019.

DevOps Midwest is primarily a technically-oriented conference. Our attendees really want to roll up their sleeves and experience what good DevOps practices look like, so workshops are really important. We also have space for high-level talks, so people can get a feel for the technology and practices that they aren’t familiar with, but we’re looking to help people leave after two days having built a kubernetes cluster, or centralized logging across multiple microservices, or created their own chaos monkey. Hearing about technology is great, but experiencing it is better. As we gather and share knowledge and experience, everybody benefits. We are looking for speakers for this event. Sign up today and share your experience with us!

CFP Description

There are two types of proposal requests for DevOps Midwest:

  1. 45-60 minute talk presented on day one of the conference.
  2. 1-2 hour technical workshop presentation with hands-on interaction on day two.

Here are some factors we consider when trying to assemble the best possible program for our local audience:

  • Broad appeal: How will your talk play out in a room of people with a variety of backgrounds? Technical deep dives need more levels to provide value for the whole room, some of whom might not use your specific tool.
  • Local presenters: We are very interested in the challenges and successes being experienced in our local community. We are happy to provide guidance/coaching for new speakers upon request.
  • Original content: We will consider talks that have already been presented elsewhere, but we prefer talks that the local area isn’t likely to have already seen.
  • No vendor pitches: As much as we value vendors, we are not going to accept a talk that appears to be a pitch for your product.

These are some TOPIC suggestions that we’re looking for (but not limited to):

  • How has DevOps changed and where is it going?
  • Personal experiences with DevOps failures and successes
  • How has DevOps affected your organization?
  • How has DevOps affected you on a personal level?
  • DevOps transformations and adaptations
  • DevOps Industry Roadmap
  • Providing value in a DevOps organization
  • Productivity, Failure, and Risk
  • DevOps Culture
  • DevOps Communication
  • Enterprise DevOps
  • Scaling DevOps

We will have hands-on, technical workshops that emphasize code, code, code! Each workshop will be approximately 1-2 hours in length, but exceptions are possible under the right circumstances.

These are some WORKSHOP suggestions that we’re looking for (but not limited to):

  • Container Standards, Security, and Orchestration
  • Continuous Integration and Delivery
  • Continuous Deployment
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Automation, Containerization, and Serverless Technologies
  • Chaos Testing
  • How to build your CI/CD pipeline
  • Scaling DevOps
