OUR HISTORY

BSides was born in 2009 when a number of quality speakers were rejected from a mainstream conference, not due to lack of quality but rather lack of space and time. Our mission is to provide people with options by removing common conference barriers and by providing more options for speakers, topics, and events.

BSidesSATX held its first event in 2013 and was welcomed with open arms by the Alamo city. It has only grown as people become more aware of it and seek to participate in their local community.

WHO WE ARE

We hope you’ll come out. Better still, why not participate? Looking to support the event? We welcome and appreciate our sponsors! Please reach out to us at bsidessatx at gmail.

BSides events combine security expertise from a variety of platforms in search of the “next big thing” in information security. BSides is an open platform that gives security experts and industry professionals the opportunity to share ideas, insights, and develop longstanding relationships with others in the community. It is a rare opportunity to directly connect and create trusted relationships with key members of the community.

Each BSides is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members. The goal is to expand the spectrum of conversation beyond the traditional confines of space and time. It creates opportunities for individuals to both present and participate in an intimate atmosphere that encourages collaboration. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. It is where conversations for the next-big-thing are happening.

CFP Description

BSidesSATX is soliciting submissions for a conference to be held on June 8, 2019.

WHO SHOULD SUBMIT?

This is a chance to share about that thing you are really good at, just getting started with, or are excited to share experiences about. Looking for ‘The Next Big Thing’ takes all kinds, so that means you. Yes YOU. The person reading this. If you find yourself here and aren’t sure if you should submit, that’s a definite sign that we want to help you get your start.

Presenters are expected to bring their own devices, although it may be possible to work with those who only are able to bring slide decks. A limited range of adapters may be available, but better to plan to bring your own, just in case.

CONFERENCE TRACKS

While not limited to the following, the tracks will loosely adhere to the following themes:

  • In the Weeds (Technical & Detailed)

  • In the Clouds (Concepts, strategy, and industry challenges)

  • In the Beginning (Introduce your topic or research)

  • In the Thick of It (Career talks & industry panels)

ABOUT PRESENTATIONS

Talks and panels for our career track, In the Thick of It

should plan to be about 40 minutes in length.

Talks for In the Beginning

should be either around 20 or 40 minutes (please specify when you submit!) and will given at the top of the hour, leaving the rest of the hour for exploration.
