About Global Scope

Most widely-used programming languages have conferences specifically dedicated to the language. CPPCon for C++, PyCon for Python, GopherCon for Go, Dart Summit, and many others.

There are many conferences that feature aspects of JavaScript: some are commercial, some community, but there are none whose primary focus is the language itself.

GlobalScope aims to focus specifically on JavaScript the language.

Who’s it for?

From front end and node developers, to library and framework developers, Global Scope is for anyone who works with JavaScript.

In depth knowledge

All Web Directions conferences feature in-depth knowledge from real world experts. Some you’ll know, many you won’t, but all bring a world of experience and knowledge.

How is Global Scope held?

Most online conferences run just like in-person conferences–one or two jam-packed days, of live streamed presentation. But with so many folks working remotely, and spending so much of their day in front of a screen we felt it was imperative to rethink this, and do something differently.

Global Scope takes place over 4 consecutive Fridays in June 2021. It will run for 3 and a half hours each session (with a bit of downtime built-in). Plus will run it 3 times so wherever you are in the world, you can participate along with your peers, from the comfort of your own home (or maybe office).

CFP Description

Keen to speak at Global Scope?

If you’re keen to speak at Global Scope or one of our other events in 2021, we’d love to hear from you.

For Global Scope we’re focussing entirely on JavaScript. Web Directions conferences have always focussed on technologies and practices rather than specific solutions (frameworks and libraries, commercial or open source.)

Topics to focus on

Some of the topics we feel will make for relevant, valuable presentations at Global Scope include

Language features

Current JavaScript features that are less well understood or used than perhaps they should be. Or deeper dives into specific language features Later stage proposals, particularly those which will have a significant impact

Practices

It’s not just the technologies that matter it’s what we do with them. So we’re also keen on sessions on debugging, performance, security software architecture.
