MLH Hackcon is the official hackathon organizers’ conference. It’s an opportunity to meet the community, learn from one another, and to tackle the issues that we are facing together. With two full days of workshops, talks, and discussion sessions, new organizers can learn best practices for running a hackathon, and veteran organizers will share their experiences and help guide the next generation.

MLH Hackcon EU III will have more than 80 student hackathon organizers and community builders coming together September 15-17 in Birmingham, UK.

We highly recommend you purchase your MLH Hackcon EU III ticket before submitting your CFP. If you are selected, we will refund your ticket cost. However, if we are unable to accommodate your talk this year, we want to make sure you lock in the early bird ticket pricing!

CFP Description

MLH Hackcon EU III is a place to learn about building the best hacker events and community possible. Your talk, discussion, or workshop should help attendees develop the skills, philosophy and expertise to make their events and communities even better.

The MLH Hackcon EU III audience consists of 80 student leaders on campus - people who organize student hackathon, run a hacker club, or manage online hacker communities.

This year, the conference is focused on the following four areas:

  • Engaging Your Community Outside of Hackathons - Hear about the ways to empower your community the other 362 days of the year.
  • Hacking is for Everyone - We believe that everyone is a hacker, share ways to bring new people into the community and embrace them in the movement.
  • Reinforcing your Hackathon’s Foundation - You don’t need to build your hackathon alone. Discover strategies to collaborate at your school and in the wider community.
  • Hackathon 2.0 - Help evolve the hackathon, pioneer ways to take hackathons to the next level.

We will consider talks outside of these areas, but you are much more likely to be accepted if it covers one or more of the above subjects. We are not looking for:

  • Hackathon 101 - We will be covering 101-level workshops before MLH Hackcon V begins.
  • Stories from your event - Simple stories will not be accepted unless they are actionable and teach the audience something specific beyond an interesting anecdote. It is encouraged to use your event as an example, however, not as the subject of your talk.

As MLH Hackcon is a conference consisting primarily of Student Hackathon Organizers, we understand you might not have experience presenting at a professional conference. For this reason, we will be pair with you to review your talk and help prepare you for an excellent session!

You do not need to have a finalized talk in order to submit your CFP, infact we encourage you to submit even if you just have a rough idea.
