BRISTECH CONFERENCE

LAST YEAR

In 2015 we hosted 250 delegates for a one-day tech conference with 18 speakers in 3 streams - Programming Languages / Tools & Techniques / Platforms.

For the full historical list of talks, please see the programme here and view the talks here

A short promo video of the event can also be seen here

THIS YEAR - Thursday 3rd November 2016

We would like to underline #bristech2016 as a tech conference for developers of all persuasions i.e. polyglots, innovators/inventors and the simply “tech curious”.

We return with a new venue (The Watershed) which holds 340+ people and the format will be similar to last year: 18 speakers across 3 streams.

This year the streams will be focused on the three ‘personas’ in the audience. This means talks aimed at i) Polyglots, ii) Innovators/inventors and iii) the simply Tech Curious.

  • For Polyglots - talks on emergent programming languages, tools, techniques and platforms by developers and practitioners of the art-form
  • For Innovators - talks on technical innovation by tech entrepreneurs, start-ups and the incubator ecosystem
  • For the simply Tech Curious - a miscellany of talks from across the tech landscape, including Data, UX and DevOps

The audience will be made up of professional developers, founders, tech entrepreneurs and hobbyists.

Note - multiple submissions are allowed and we will assess each submission independently of others - thanks!

CFP Description

The Bristech Conference 2016 theme is “Tech Innovation”, with a strong bias towards software and software-related topics.

We enjoy the fact that the sub-themes are largely emergent, since they are down to the speaker content.

The ideal talk will combine both theory and practice, with personal witness and insight direct from the “code face”.

We are expecting quality talks of a highly technical nature, with no disguised sales pitches, please. Talks will be 30 minutes in length with 15 minutes for questions (either interleaved, or invited at the end of the talk). Good time management essential.

Our speaker selection criteria are as follows:

  • Quality delivery, with proven public speaking experience

  • Timeliness and relevance of the technical content

  • Suitability for one (or more) of our audience personas - Polyglots, Tech Innovation, the Tech Curious

  • Clear focus in terms of breadth vs. depth i.e. 101/advanced

  • Evidence of passion for and insight into the chosen topic, for example blog posts, previous talks or other content

  • Local speakers preferred (Bristol) but we will also consider applicants from wider afield, both UK and non-UK

The conference code of conduct will be broadly the same as 2015 and can be found here.
