Elevator Pitch
Couple months ago I came home to find the pilot light out on our furnace and the whole house freezing. Tried to relight it, but the flame wouldn’t stay on and I started smelling something faint that made me uneasy.
Description
We had our own nightmare when we wanted to add a gas range in the kitchen. Thought it would be a simple swap, but apparently you need proper permits and someone certified to hook it up. At first I called a couple of random ads I found online and one guy said he could “make it work” without permits, which was a huge red flag. That pushed me to do a bit more digging, and I found a list of Gas Fitters in Langley, BC that actually pointed me toward tradespeople who are licensed and working locally. It made such a difference because the person I hired showed me exactly what needed to be done, took care of the permit, and double checked all the connections so there weren’t any leaks. It ended up costing a little more than the sketchy quote, but I’d rather pay for peace of mind than worry every time I cook. My advice for anyone: don’t just go with the cheapest option, ask if they’ve handled your exact job before, and make sure they’re insured. Another thing I noticed is they get insanely busy as soon as fall starts, so book them early if you can. Even if it’s not urgent, it saves you from waiting days when everyone else is calling during the first cold snap.
Notes
Funny how life has a way of throwing problems at you right when you’re least ready. Things run smooth for months, and then out of nowhere something breaks and you’re juggling calls, stress, and costs all at once. Makes you think about how fragile daily comfort really is, like we’re always one twist away from chaos.
