Bio

Kyle N. Weir, Ph.D., LMFT, is a Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy in the Counselor Education program at California State University—Fresno. He has also previously served as Chair of the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation and as Coordinator of the Counselor Education program. He currently serves as the Associate Director of Fresno Family Counseling Center – a student-training clinic operated by the faculty and students of Fresno State’s Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling option serving the needs of the California Central Valley community. He received a B.S. in Public Policy and Management, an M.A. in Sociology (Organizations), a M.M.F.T. in Marital & Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. in Sociology/Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, was a part-time clinician at LDS Family Services, and now practices with the firm Roubicek & Thacker/LifeSTAR of the Central Valley.

He is married to Allison Brown Weir, and they have six children: Kellie, Nathan, Samantha, Joshua, Jason, and Daniel. They have one grandchild, Lilli, so far. It was through the personal adoption experiences with his children that Dr. Weir developed an academic interest in adoptive studies. Dr. Weir is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and the books Coming Out of the Adoptive Closet (2003; University Press of America), The Choice of a Lifetime: What Adoptive Parents Need to Know Before Adopting (2011; NTI Upstream), and Intimacy, Identity, and Ice Cream: Teaching Teens and Young Adults to Live the Law of Chastity (2016; Cedar Fort Publishing). He has served in numerous Church callings, including as a missionary in the Australia Brisbane Mission, bishop of the Yosemite Ward, and a high councilor (once in the Arcadia, CA Stake and twice in the Fresno, CA West Stake). He currently serves as the Second Counselor in the Young Men’s Presidency (Deacon’s Quorum Advisor and Scoutmaster) in his ward and teaches the temple preparation course.
