Tech bio: Chris Biow holds a BS in Mathematics from the US Naval Academy and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, where he performed graduate research in spatial algorithms and software process metrics. He has worked in text retrieval, document database, and text analytic software for the past 17 years with particular concentration on massively scalable applications of text exploitation systems. His most recent research involvement has been with technical transition of the IARPA Early Model Based Event Detection using Surrogates (EMBERS) project into government production operations. Hobbies include photo drones, anything from SparkFun that can be soldered, and mountaineering.

Biz bio: Chris Biow leads the Public Sector team at Basis Technology, working with government customers to meet their text analytic mission needs using Basis software and services. After flying with the US Navy as an F-14 Tomcat RIO (Radar Intercept Officer), Chris founded a sales-enablement software company and then worked delivering Public Sector solutions with search and database software at Verity, Autonomy, and as Federal CTO at MarkLogic. While at MongoDB, he specialized in private-cloud MDBaaS and was the first to stand up a cloud-based, petabyte database on MongoDB. At Basis, he has specialized in large textual data problems as applied to anticipatory intelligence. He has been a speaker at AWS Re:Invent, NoSQL Now, DoDIIS, and Smart Data conferences.
