Technical debt is not something we as developers plan to take on but it seems like we’re all guilty of taking on more than we’d like to admit; albeit for a lot of really valid reasons. If it were easy to avoid or eliminate we probably wouldn’t be struggling with it!
Fortunately there are a lot of development and non-development models we can look at for inspiration to start the process of getting debt free! In this talk we’ll leverage practices in the development, fitness, finance, medical, and behavioral science industries for best practices we can use to apply to our predicament.
In this 30 minute presentation Jason will engage the participants with some humorous anecdotes and examples from his experiences in various industries and even some personal struggles he’s learned from.

Notes
I’ve worked in these industries and have really learned a lot about the WHY developers accumulate debt and how to easily start eliminating it. I’ve also paid off a significant amount of debt, lost a considerable amount of weight, and worked on a high-stress trauma team at a local emergency room. I’ve become obsessed with the psychology and behaviors of developers that contribute to bad designs, inefficient architectures, and costly technical debt.
