Steering into the cloud – Sportradar's journey to Cloud Native

By Felix Rabe

Elevator Pitch

Join the unique opportunity to hear from inside of Sportradar - the global leader in understanding and leveraging the power of sports data and digital content - how we tackle the transformation to become fully cloud native.

Description

Sportradar is the leading supplier of sports and betting-related data services. Founded in 2000 by two students, Sportradar has grown to an international organization with over 2000 full time employees, thereof more than 500 Engineers.

Historically, Sportradar hosted all its services on own infrastructure with a large central database at the core of all systems. When cloud technologies began to emerge, some teams started new developments using those. In early 2018 – after some products using kubernetes were launched into production, and problems with the classical server center approach kept growing – it was decided that it is time to transition completely into the cloud:

This talk presents Sportradar’s Tech Transformation. You will hear how kubernetes experts within the company connect to lead the way into the cloud, how we want to utilize DevOps and establish that within our development teams, why our freshly on-boarded CTO brought us a Spotify-like engineering structure, and how we approach product management to get them into our speed boats of tech transformation.

Notes

We will join the Cloud Native Transformation Summit with at least 4 developers who are deeply involved in Sportradar’s tech transformation. We will make an exciting presentation and hope that we can use this to spark discussion and exchange with others who are also in the process of transforming on-premis systems to cloud native applications.
