Bio

I’m James, a fellow DevOps engineer that also heads up a small DevOps team for a local fintech company. I work in an industry (finance) that is not considered attractive in the tech world and I like to prove people wrong as we do really cool and exciting stuff that gets productized. I’m in a unique position in which we are essentially a “start-in” within a classic Fortune 500 corp. This position allow us to design patterns and build net-new infrastructure from scratch and push this out for adoption within the core and spread it outwards to a larger audience.

I along with our DevOps team work very closely with half a dozen scrum teams that are building out Java backend services and a JS / Angular UI with widgets, all hosted in Azure as a multi-tenant SaaS, powered by multiple data platforms. I worked at Eagle Investment Systems for nearly 10 years and I have experienced automating a classic C++ monolithic app stack with a classic waterfall development process to building modern microservices baked in Docker containers hosted on Azure Kubernetes Service.

Outside of work, I dabble with various, random tech. For example, I recently built my own NAS with an Intel Atom embedded server running FreeNAS. I enjoy playing classic fighting games and ski when weather permits. I have 7 year old twins whom I spend time with when I’m not grinding on a story from our Kanban board.
