Squad goals: How to build a wining organisational team

By Oliver Walters

Elevator Pitch

Choosing teammates is difficult & enthusiastic volunteers can fast become absentee organisers. In this talk, I’ll describe methods to analyse common archetypes & pick the right people. Seasoned organisers & budding leaders should come away with a stronger understanding of successful team selection.

Description

We all want that ultimate organisational squad, but at times an enthusiastic volunteer can quickly become an absentee organiser. Drawing on examples from a committee that couldn’t get anything done, I’ll take you through the types of people you may (or may not) want to help you obtain your society or hackathon goals. Whether you’re a seasoned organiser or a newcomer to the organisational table, learning to spot the helpful or unhelpful is a talent we could all benefit from. By the end of this talk, you should have a better understanding of how to spot those who would join your team and whether they’ll help or hold you back.
