Accuracy and Precision in Software Development

By Erin Page

Elevator Pitch

Writing software is hard. What’s even harder? Writing software requirements. How do we get an idea out of someone’s head and into our code? In this talk, attendees will learn how to increase accuracy in delivery of software projects.

Description

When I was in the military, I learned about accuracy and precision on the shooting range. Since entering software development, I have noticed the difficulty in precisely and accurately delivering software based on specifications. As a software developer, I often find a mismatch between what the client EXPECTS and what I MAKE. How can we do a better job of aligning expectations? In this talk, we will discuss the use of User Stories and Acceptance Criteria in delivering accurate and precise software.

Notes

I have been in the tech industry for around 5 years, with 3 years of software development experience. I work for an agency, and have had an opportunity to experience the mismatch of client expectations with delivered software. No one ends up happy when this process does not work.

I will have a slide deck for this presentation.
