Desktops, DevOps and Odd Socks - Chapter 2

By Glenn Sarti

Elevator Pitch

Back in 2014 I gave a presentation about the role Enterprise Desktop IT in DevOps community. Since then much has changed. In Chapter 2, I will briefly revisit the role Desktop IT in Enterprise DevOps, and talk about where we can find some unlikely DevOps champions and allies in Enterprises.

Description

The PowerShell Summit, while a technical conference, attracts people who are forward thinking and have the ears of people in their own workplace. They are leaders and influencers, not just PowerShell Ninja Masters.

DevOps is becoming (or has become) the defacto way of working, but as PowerShell practitioners, how can we help improve adoption in our own workplaces?

In this talk we’ll look at some unlikely champions and allies of DevOps adoption, and what part PowerShell Practioners have.

And also some practical tools to help bridge gaps with other teams and people, for example, Audit, Compliance, and ITIL

Notes

In this talk I want to focus on the more inter-team based aspects of improving of our jobs. As much as this sounds like a “sales” job, and it is, it’s a skill that needs to be taught and then grown. PowerShell helps with that, but it’s not the end game.

I originally gave this talk back in April 2017 - https://glennsarti.github.io/presentation/devops-desktop-oddsocks-chapter2/ . I will adapt the content and focus more on how PowerShell plays into leadership and advocacy.
