Notes

Many companies see bootcamp grads as a liability they aren’t willing to take a risk on. Yet, while many bootcamp grads may be true coding novices, they are very motivated to continue learning code and oftentimes bring many valuable skills and experiences from prior careers that startups desperately need. As a graduate of General Assembly’s Web Development Immersive program in Washington, DC, a prior career in non-profit fundraising, and an MBA and Master’s in International Management, I found it useful to leverage the skills and experiences I gained from my prior career and education when starting my career in web development. In my current role, my entrepreneurial desires are nurtured through ‘growth days’ when I am encouraged to work on my ideas. Likewise, I am consulted on my areas of non-code expertise (most recently expanding operations and analyzing risk in Africa for a client) and use my soft-skills to represent the company at networking events and conferences. It’s a win-win. My company is utilizing my other expertise while developing me into a senior developer.

Primary intended audience will be start-up leaders. Secondary audience will be recent bootcamp grads.
