Distraction Driven Development

By Mark Bates

Elevator Pitch

Distraction Driven Development is a fun approach to problem solving that might just change your life, or at the very least provide some good arguments as to why you should spend all day playing Clash of Clans.

Description

I watch a lot of TV. I play the guitar and the piano. Hell, I even take naps. Yet despite doing all of these things during my “work” day, I get a lot accomplished. How? How can I justify watching the Godfather trilogy when I’m supposed to be working?

Have you ever been stuck on a really tough problem only to have the answer come to you in the shower or the middle of the night? The human brain is a complex machine. Sometimes it gets clogged and jammed up. How do we unclogged it and get those wheels moving again?

The answer is in distraction. In this talk we’ll examine how the brain works and how it solves problems. We’ll investigate techniques you can use to grease the wheels, and yes, I do recommend watching TV and playing the guitar!
