Description

What does it take to become the kind of leader who makes a lasting difference? This thought-provoking presentation dives into the critical distinctions that separate mediocre leadership from extraordinary leadership. Drawing on inspiring stories of ingenuity and perseverance, like Gus Petzel’s cross-country journey in a self-built car and Hubert Cecil Booth’s invention of the modern vacuum cleaner, this session explores the mindset, behaviors, and decisions that define effective leaders. Discover an engaging breakdown of five powerful leadership principles, each anchored by a memorable “C” word: clarity, control, courage, creativity, and commitment. These principles will empower attendees to think beyond the obvious and lead with confidence, innovation, and purpose.

Through vivid examples from history, industry, and innovation, this presentation will help you challenge your assumptions, embrace imperfection, and focus on what truly matters in leadership. Whether you’re leading a team, managing a project, or inspiring change in your organization, you will be equipped with actionable insights to lead effectively even in the face of uncertainty. Find how to turn “impossible” into “achievable” and walk away ready to make decisions that accelerate progress, motivate others, and create meaningful impact.

Notes

First of all, to elaborate a little bit more on the above promotional description of this session, here is a high-level outline that forms the framework for this riveting keynote presentation that shows five critical distinctions that define extraordinary leadership:

1. Clarity (Between Simple & Easy)
2. Control (Between Important and Urgent)
3. Courage (Between Good and Great)
4. Creativity (Between Smart and Wise)
5. Commitment (Between Perfect and Excellent)

Secondly, here are the learning objectives for this session. The participant/attendee will:

  • Distinguish between clarity and ease to focus on simple, effective solutions rather than short-term convenience
  • Develop the ability to prioritize important tasks over urgent distractions by exercising control and maintaining focus on long-term goals
  • Gain the tools to channel creativity, courage, and commitment into actionable leadership strategies that inspire teams and drive meaningful results

  • I plan to engage the audience and draw them in with object lessons, question/answer, and other interactive means, drawing upon my decades of experience as an educator and IT professional. The intent is to provide the audience with a memorable, relatable, and beneficial experience, leaving them both enriched and educated. My 30-plus years of experience have uniquely equipped me to do so.

Lastly, something about me: As a minority Hispanic technical speaker, I thrive on addressing the need for motivation, high-level challenges, and technical expertise for personal and professional development in numerous areas. In addition, since I will be coming from the USA and do not have corporate sponsorship, I will need the conference organizers to cover my travel and lodging expenses. In return, I will gladly consider discounting or possibly even waiving my usual speaking fees.

In the last four years alone, I have spoken in more than a hundred total events (including more than 30 keynotes) hosted by cities in nearly two dozen countries on every inhabited continent on this planet, impacting thousands. To attest to my experience, here is a list of some of the events where I have spoken in the last few years. Keynote addresses are indicated by double asterisks.
