Farming in the Ops Age

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, where farming was the way of life. A technology obsessed kid surrounded by fields, cows, and hard work. I took those life lessons with me into our “field”. Let’s talk about how early life lessons can shape us in our chosen career.

“You should treat your servers like cattle!”

I’ve heard that statement a lot over the past few years, especially since the evolution to CI/CD and micro service-based systems started to come into prevalence. In this talk I’ll highlight what I see as similarities between being a farm boy from the country to helping shape the IT landscape for companies across the globe. You’d be surprised just how much of your childhood follows you later in life.
