Overcoming Agile Gaps with Your Team

By Thomas Huff

Elevator Pitch

Teams are often made up of cross-functional and cross-cultural members who have not previously worked together. In the rush to start a project, people overlook the “Agile Gaps” among Team Members. This presentation looks at the types of gaps and what you can do to mitigate the project impact.

Description

Teams are frequently constructed of cross-functional and cross-cultural members who have not previously worked together. In the usual rush to start a project, no one takes time to understand “Agile Gaps” that may exist among Team Members. The gaps fall into three groups; knowledge gaps, interpretation gaps, and excitement or enthusiasm gaps. My presentation is a highly interactive workshop style session which uses a combination of presentation of course materials, audience surveys, and group breakout sessions. During the presentation, I will introduce worksheets that students will use during the interactive session and can take home with them. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to identify and assess a team’s challenges across three dimensions by evaluating the knowledge, interpretation, and excitement gaps of the project team members and apply techniques to mitigate the impact of those gaps on the project.
