Elevator Pitch
The top three ways to prevent a breach in order are, basics, basics, basics. From training to firewall rules and patching, doing the basics can save your bacon, or not doing them can cause a total wipeout.
Description
It’s pretty easy to prevent 99.9% of cyber attacks, with just a pair of scissors. That being said, if you do cut your internet connection, doing any form of business will be difficult in the modern world. In this talk, we’ll cover how doing the basics, consistently, will either prevent a breach, or vastly reduce the impact if there is a breach. The talk will focus on a case study approach with examples, so we’ll also look at a case study of the Solarwinds attack from a few years back, and how the US DOD fell foul of that due to a lack of basic controls, as well as some very common basic mistakes with WiFi, Remote Server access in AWS, Azure and on-premise, Data Backup, User Authentication and more.
