Elevator Pitch

Product Managers create, design and strategize the delivery of products to customer focused needs. The pathway of successful delivery has no textbook approach, but we will illustrate the best practices, skills and lessons learned by product managers from start ups to fortune 500 companies.

Description

The variability of a product manager’s role varies by organization, but there is a distinct set of expectations a product manager has for successful delivery of a product to customers. The Agile team, customers and product success has a dependency on the product manager for communication, setting priority, integration of core activities and driving the vision of the product. Mastery in product management evolves upon continuous learning, increasing soft skills, understanding concepts like user experience, design and technology, and focused engagement with who is the customer.

Notes

Thank you for the opportunity to expand knowledge on what the role of the product manager does in IT organizations. With my experience as a product manager and the collaboration of other product managers, I would like to present an examination of the persona of a product manager on an Agile product development team.

Often times the lines are blurred within large corporate settings, fortune 500 companies and by IT talent recruiters on the differences that separate the roles of an IT product manager and IT project manager. I would like to display real life examples of the role of product manager through video examples of IT managers from Google, Facebook, lean start ups and corporations to exemplify not only the importance of this role as a counterpart of an Agile team, but define what success and mastery is in this ever-changing role.
