Microservices or Monolith

By Peter Eijgermans

Elevator Pitch

Microservices is no longer only the latest buzzword, but stands for a broad development/paradigm change to Continuous Delivery, RESTful Services and Agile Development. The presentation deals with the differences between a monolith and microservices and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

Description

Microservices is no longer only the latest buzzword, but stands for a broad development/paradigm change to Continuous Delivery, RESTful Services and Agile Development. Teams develop independent (micro) services with a private life cycle, so that new functionality is placed in a very short space of time in production. For online services such as Netflix and Spotify this is vital to compete. Microservices set high standards for architecture and infrastructure: asynchronous message-based applications that are automatically deployed containerized, scaled and managed. The presentation deals with the differences between a monolith and microservices and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

Notes

I have a drive to talk about big issues such as Microservices or Architecture in general, because I love complexity. It’s a challenge for me to see the big picture and explain it to the audience in simple words. I have successfully given this talk at the Rabobank and at the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands
