The second installment of GoCon Canada will be coming to downtown Toronto on May 25-26, 2020. GoCon is committed to building an accessible and inclusive conference with high-quality conversations that will grow the Go community in the Greater Toronto Area. We’re scaling up to two days this year, which means more slots for awesome Go talks!

We anticipate a diverse audience, with various degrees of experience with programming in Go. We want to build a single-track program that is largely technical and focused on the Go language and ecosystem, with a few introductory-level talks and cultural discussions mixed in.

We will also be opening a Call for Ignite Talks closer to the time of the conference!

CFP Description

Proposals can be drawn from a wide range of topics. We want to hear about:

  • Projects and services that you’re building using Go
  • Libraries, APIs, and developer tools that are helping to expand the Go ecosystem
  • Technical deep-dives into language features
  • Introductory-level overviews
  • Software engineering and product development practices and tools
  • Organizational change, culture-building, communities, inclusion, and diversity

Submission Guidelines

  • We value submissions from first-time speakers. If we need to tie-break between two equally compelling pitches, we’ll vote in favor of a first-time speaker. If you need assistance with crafting your proposal or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to speakers@gocon.ca ahead of submitting.
  • Conference speaker lineups, like the tech industry as a whole, tend not to reflect the demographics that we want to see in our industry. We know that by default, CFP processes skew in favor of majority groups. We value submissions from individuals from one or more under-indexed groups in the tech industry, and will make every effort to build a diverse, representative program. If you’re on the fence, or if you need any help, we want to hear from you: speakers@gocon.ca.
  • No third-party submissions. We will not consider proposals from PR firms or marketing teams, only primary submitters.
  • No vendor pitches, please. If your proposal revolves around a specific technology, please try to focus on the problem being solved, rather than a particular tool involved in the solution.

Please note: We cannot offer any feedback after a proposal has been submitted. This would bias the review process, so if you need support, please reach out before you submit your proposal.

All accepted speakers will receive:

  • Speakers’ dinner on the evening before the conference (May 24)
  • Ticket to both days of the conference
  • A unique, personalized, top-secret speaker gift

Travel & Accommodation Support for non-local speakers

GoCon is a 100% volunteer-run, community-based conference. We aim to keep costs low in order to maximize accessibility. If cost is a barrier to your ability to speak at GoCon, we want you to contact us at speakers@gocon.ca rather than deciding to not submit a proposal. We’ll make every possible effort to support speakers who do not receive support from their employers to participate.

Please note: We cannot offer any feedback after a proposal has been submitted. This would bias the review process, so if you need support, please reach out before you submit your proposal.

Speakers traveling from out of town are eligible for:

  • Up to 3 nights of accommodation at a hotel near the venue
  • Up to 100% coverage for airfare
    • If you choose to submit reimbursements, we will cover 100% provided that the flight is booked relatively close to the submission acceptance notification time
    • If you choose to let us handle the booking, then we will cover 100%
  • 100% reimbursement for Lyft/Uber/taxi rides to get to/from downtown from Pearson or Billy Bishop airport
